Steve Fitz-Gerald - Chief Executive

Steve joined Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group as Chief Executive Officer in January 2011.

With a background mainly in Aerospace and Defence, Steve is an industry leader with a great track record.  He began his career with Plessey Radar in 1974 as an electronics engineer.  He held a number of senior commercial positions within Plessey and Marconi, and became Group Commercial Director for Marconi Avionics and BAE Systems Avionics (following the takeover of Marconi by BAE Systems).

Steve’s achievements include managing the integrated combat system into service for the royal Navy’s Type 22 Frigates; formed the sonar joint venture between Thomson CSF and GEC Marconi; integrated and rationalised BAE Systems interests in Australia and negotiated behavioural undertakings with both the UK and USA Governments; played a key role in the negotiation and implementation of the civil maritime surveillance contract in Australia.

He left BAE Systems to become a Director of Mysis International Banking Systems Ltd, a banking software company.  In 2001, Steve joined FR Aviation Group as Group Commercial Director and in 2005 took up the role of Managing Director of Cobham Flight Operations & Services.  He then became President of Cobham Aviation Services Division until December 2010.

Kevan Bishop - MD Aeropeople Ltd

Kevan joined Marshall Aerospace from FRA/Serco in 2001, to establish and develop an Employment Business to be called 'Aeropeople'.

Kevan has applied his extensive business knowledge, considerable network of contacts and entrepreneurial flair to create one of the premier aviation support companies. Since its launch in 2001 Aeropeople has developed into a major part of Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group, with an enviable portfolio of clients, providing worldwide coverage, with comprehensive service solutions and offerings.

A highly experienced Licensed Engineer, Kevan joined Ace Aviation Services in 1994, and was instrumental in the company’s growth and development, leading to acquisition. Kevan's initial career saw him undertake many engineering assignments, working worldwide. He had significant periods in the Middle East, Europe and Africa, with major Airlines and MRO's. This included spells as a Flight Mechanic, running a maintenance facility and providing away from base support on VIP operations.

Neal graduated from the University of Salford with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering and joined Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group in 1989 as a Management Trainee.

He progressed through the aircraft modification and maintenance (production) areas with extended periods in production planning, project management and more recently production support.

In 2007, Neal was appointed as a Director of Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group, with overall responsibility for production and was subsequently appointed as Operations Director in 2009 with his responsibilities extended to include the company’s manufacturing activities.

He is also a member of the ADS MRO & Logistics network group and vice-Chair of Governors for a local state funded primary school.

Brian Phillipson

Brian Phillipson - Engineering Director

Brian joined Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group in June 2009 from Munich, where he had been Chief Operating Officer on the multinational Eurofighter Typhoon programme.

A Cambridge Engineering Graduate, Brian spent the early part of his career working at British Aircraft Corporation, Warton, on Combat / Training aircraft including Eurofighter, Jaguar, Tornado, Harrier/AV8, Hawk/Goshawk, and Canberra. His roles included Engineering, Manufacturing, and Programme / General Management.

After attending the Royal College of Defence Studies in1994, Brian was Director of Strategy and Planning in British Aerospace Headquarters, then moved to Munich as Managing Director of Eurofighter GmbH.

Between 1999 and 2004 Brian worked in the Naval world, becoming Group Managing Director - Sea Systems, with responsibility for all aspects of BAE Systems’ UK businesses dealing with surface ships, submarines, and underwater weapons.

Glen Clark - Finance Director

Glen trained as a chartered accountant with Ernst & Young in Cambridge having completed a degree in Accountancy at the University of Birmingham. Specialising in the larger manufacturing clients of Ernst & Young eventually led him to head up the audit team at Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group. In 1992, following some restructuring of the Marshall Group, Glen was asked to join the team as Management Accountant and was later appointed to the Board in 1994.

During his time at Marshall he has been involved with a number of Group Companies and now heads up the Finance function along with IT and takes the lead in any corporate acquisition activity and foreign subsidiary formation. He is also a Pension Trustee of two Marshall pension schemes.

Charles Hughes - Business Development & Strategy Director

Charles joined Marshall Aerospace as Business Development & Strategy Director in June 2011.

Charles' early career was in the Royal Navy as a General List Supply Officer and subsequently helicopter pilot/instructor before joining Rolls Royce Military Engines in 1986 as Commercial and Marketing Executive. He spent time as Head of Business for UK Government and then in 1995 he became a Project Director and Vice President JSF for Rolls Royce. He took the Rolls Royce element of the JSF programme from initial proposals through to concept demonstration and the eventual selection of Lockheed Martin’s F-35. During this period he lived in Indianapolis, USA for 2 years. He then moved onto developing a Service business for Rolls Royce Military Engines which was designed to provide the UK MoD and other export customers with total care packages for propulsion.

Charles joined Cobham plc in January 2004 as VP Strategy and Business Development for the Aerospace Systems Group. He had the responsibility to build the strategy for the Aerospace Systems Group to deliver sustainable growth for the future. He was then appointed in October 2005 as the VP Strategic Marketing for Cobham plc. Prior to joining Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group, Charles was the VP Strategy and Business Development for the Aviation Services Division of Cobham.

Keith Hussey

Keith Hussey - Human Resources Director

Keith began his career in the RAF and was commissioned in the mid-80s when he worked on a range of personnel related projects. In 1995, following his final role as a Project Manager within the RAF’s Market Testing Team, he joined Bombardier Defence Services providing HR input to a range of bids for UK and International outsourced contracts.

During this time Keith was part of the team that successfully secured the RAF’s Pathfinder PFI contract. Formerly Head of HR for VT Aerospace (part of the VT Group), Keith was then appointed as Head of Contract Support - in this role he had responsibility for leading a cross-functional team in support of a variety of contracts across the whole of the UK, Germany and the Middle East.

Following a sabbatical, when he travelled extensively, Keith joined Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group in March 2005.

He is a member of the Engineering Employers Federation (EEF) National Employment Policy Committee.

Nick Whitney - MD of Support Solutions

Nick joined Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group as Managing Director of Support Solutions in January 2012. He is responsible for aircraft projects and services for both the Ministry of Defence and other International customers, and for the activities delivered through Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group's Australian and Canadian companies.

Prior to his appointment, Nick was Senior Vice President of the UK Government Business Unit at AgustaWestland, where he was accountable for all business with the UK Ministry of Defence with contracts varying from aircraft build and modification to long term support contracts.

Nick's career started at Plessey Marine where he undertook an engineering apprenticeship. He joined the Westland Engineering Division in 1983 working on a number of different aircraft programmes, reaching the position of Chief Engineer. He then moved into Technical Support taking responsibility for In-Service Programmes and Support, with additional responsibility for the Company’s Customer Training Department.

Nick attended the first Executive Masters of Defence Administration course at the Royal Military College of Science, graduating in 1994. He also attended the Top Management Programme run by the UK Government Cabinet Office in 2005 and the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) in 2009.

In 2003 he was awarded an MBE for services to aviation. He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, a Freeman of the City of London and a member of the Coachmakers Livery company.

Ian Atkinson - Commercial & Purchasing Director

Ian joined Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group as Commercial & Purchasing Director in April 2012.

With a background mainly in Aerospace and Defence, Ian has extensive experience of major defence programmes working with MoD, Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), RAF and trade organisations such as ADS. He was previously a Director of the North West Aerospace Alliance. He held a number of senior commercial positions within Marconi Avionics. Following the takeover of Marconi and formation of BAE Systems he joined the Military Aircraft business based at Warton as Procurement and Supply Chain Director. He has experience on a number of key programmes including large aircraft such as Nimrod and combat aircraft such as F-35 and Typhoon. Most recently he was based in the Middle East as Vice President Industrialisation for BAE Systems Saudi Arabia Limited.

Ian’s achievements include successful bid and proposal experience for major multimillion £ defence programmes; direction and development of large and complex multi site Procurement and Supply Chain operations; and international experience throughout Europe, USA and the Middle East.  He has led high value procurement programmes and the negotiation, contract, procurement and project management of major complex systems and support services.
