Industrial placement students in engineering
Our nine-month industrial placement programme provides undergraduate students with specialist work experience in Systems, Avionics, Structures, Stress, Flight Dynamics and Test.
What you will learn
This is a hands-on placement working on live projects, so, although you will be closely supervised, you can expect a steep learning curve. For those who learn quickly and apply themselves, it’s an unmatched, real-life work experience supported by some of the industry’s most respected engineers.
While you’re here, we’ll try to get you involved in end-to-end projects, with a view to seeing them through to completion. Ideally, you’ll gain exposure in different business areas, and take on more responsibility as the placement develops.
We generally only consider applications from second-year aerospace or aero-systems engineering degree students. You’ll spend your third year here at our Cambridge Head Office site. There also may be the opportunity to apply for a summer placement, depending on our project requirements.
If you already know you’re going on to study a Masters when you apply, we may be able to offer you a summer placement with us between your degree and your MEng.
One more thing – we occasionally accept students from general engineering degrees, but only if the course has a very strong design element.
Beyond your placement
Like any industry, aerospace can be unpredictable, so we can’t guarantee you a permanent position after your graduation. However, if you demonstrate an above average capability and the aptitude to become a design engineer, we’ll consider sponsoring you through your final year of study with the possibility of full time employment post-graduation.
Because it takes more than technical knowledge to succeed, we always interview potential placement students.
We’re looking for dynamic engineers who can contribute and hold their own in a competitive industry – and go on to become the leaders of the future.
How to apply
We usually start accepting online applications in April. Industrial placement vacancies will be advertised in our careers section during March. If you can’t see ‘Industrial Placements’ listed, check back again in a few days.
