Cabin safety

C-130 Cabin Improvements

Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group has designed and installed a number of cabin modifications to C-130 aircraft. All of these modifications are certified under Def Stan 00-0970 military regulations, and the safety improvements meet the intent of CS-25 requirements. 

Safety Improvements

Safety Improvements help operators to meet their current and future duty of care obligations allowing them to operate these aircraft long into the future. 

Passenger Restraints and Seating

  • Replacement of existing troop seats with enhanced crash load capability (16g Dynamic)
  • Stowage device for Emergency Portable Oxygen System, life vest and passenger emergency procedures card at every passenger seat
  • 9g crash load compliant mounting provisions for all litter installations

Smoke Detection Systems

  • CS 25.858 Class E compliant cargo compartment smoke detection system
  • Wireless detection and warning (tested for DO-160C RF transmission spectrum) 

Interior Lighting Systems

  • Class B, type II NVIS compatible LED type lighting, (MIL-l-85762A/MIL-STD-3009 compliant)
  • Lighting arrangements providing a minimum floor level intensity of 30 lux. Capable of charging emergency lighting system - also dimmable for NVIS.
  • Emergency crash lighting system CS 25.812(g) compliant 

Fasten Seatbelt Signs and Emergency Exit Markings

  • Fasten seat belt signs visible from all seats
  • NVIS compatible signage
  • CS 25.811 compliant marking scheme, using fluorescent and photo luminescent markings 

Occupant Protection

  • Conduct a head strike analysis and provide solutions to reduce head strike 

Operational Improvements

Operational Improvements enhance the effectiveness of the cabin environment during operations. 

230 VAC/50Hz Power Outlets

  • Provide cargo compartment with 230 VAC military or civil standard power outlets

Loadmaster Seat and Console

  • Include two loadmaster seats (similar to C-130J aircraft) located at approximately LH FS255 and RH FS630
  • Include loadmaster console, providing storage for:
    • Oxygen panel, face mask and walk around bottle
    • First aid kit
    • Cabin lighting controls
    • Lockable stowage for loose equipment
    • Audio/PA control panel
    • EPOS smoke hood 

Cabin Stowage

  • Modify cargo ramp area stowage to accommodate first aid kit and emergency tool kit
  • Install a semi-permanent reconfigurable stowage platform capable of carrying 100kg 

Personnel Oxygen

  • Install quick-donning oxygen masks, and crew walk around bottles at a number of locations within the cabin
